Capture Process: Subject Preparation
The
analysis of biomechanics is a major component in evaluating athletic
performance. During this process, several reflective markers are
placed on the skin overlying specific bony landmarks of the legs,
pelvis, and upper body. These markers provide information on the
locations of the body's joints and major segments. The CHP developed
a unique upper extremity kinematic model to allow for reliable measurements
of gleno-humeral (shoulder joint) rotations relative to the shoulder
girdle. Since adequate representation of joints and bones depends
on accurate marker placement, members of the CHP's staff, who are
highly trained in human anatomy and kinesiology, routinely undergo
marker clinics to maintain quality assurance.
